2798.0. "DCIMAN32.DLL won't start" by BRLLNT::JABLONSKY () Sun Feb 16 1997 21:50

    Recently someone send me an .EXE file within an Exchange Mail message.
        When I am on my home PC and click on it I get an error of
    "DCIMAN32.DLL won't start check file"

        When I do this from my office PC it all works fine. I have moved
    the DCIMAN32.DLL from my office PC to my home PC and it still doesn't
    work.

        Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and how to fix it?

I was getting the same thing for a while on some CDs that I inserted to
install from. I also got a mmsystem266 error when trying to play .avi
files.

I fixed it by extracting the following files from the windows 95 CDROM:

/windows/system/dciman.dll (even though it complained about dciman32.dll)
/windows/system/msvideo.dll

and mciavi.drv - need to use the "Add new hardware" icon to change this.

You can find instructions on how to do this at microsoft's knowledge base:
