| Try without the printer switch. Is this a parallel or serial line
switch box?
Make sure that the printer emulation modes match the capability of
the driver(s). Do you switch drivers between the 2 printers? How do
you print...from DOS PRINT?
If you would have only changed the anti-virus program I bet that you
would not have this problem ;-).

| I doubt that the Norton Anti-Virus had anything to do with your problem. I would
recommend that you take the time to remove both printers and reinstall them, one at a
time with the switch in the proper positions. Let the install process go all the way
through to the print test page stage to be sure. The other potential issue has to do with
the settings for the printer port. Some printers require bi-directional support on the
parallel port and some do not. Some switches support that and some do not. I had to
abandon efforts to use an older Digital printer switch some time back and go buy a more
modern switch to use in sharing access to one printer between two systems (similar to you
issue in the switching sense), because of that issue.

This rings a bell....! At the time I did not know what it meant,
but I recall the only difference between his port config and mine was
his was: LPT1:<(EPC)printer port> and mine was just LPT1:<printer
port>. (i *think* it was EPC or something like it.) This may be the
problem. I should be able to change LPT1 to normal in the Bios setup.

2784.5 | Problem Solved I hope | CPCOD::CODY | | Fri Feb 07 1997 14:33 | 14 |
| Someone in the IBMPC notes conference suggested I change the bios
setting for the parallel port. I did that, changing it from AT to ECP(I
think). This has appeared to solve the problem. I say appears because
it was an intermittent problem but was getting worse. I was able to
run the payroll for a small business yesterday and print the pay
vouchers. In answer to some of the questions, I did remove it from
the switch, I print from Win95 and yes the only things that were
changed were software related. What I believe happened was that one of
the Microsoft files dealing with printing was corrupted and by
re-setting the bios I overlaid the bad file(s).
Thanks for your suggestions.

| I solved the problem by replacing the manual switch with an automatic
switch and replacing the cables.
