2770.0. "Troubleshooting Media-Player startup problem?" by JULIET::HARRIS_MA (Networks Sales Exec) Wed Jan 29 1997 13:57
On my Win95 system, I tried starting Microsoft's standard Media Player
(MPLAYER.EXE) that comes with windows. It open the application, and
then within several seconds it aborts with an "Error. Program made a
call to an illegal .DLL file... blah, blah, etc."
I assume somthing I installed over the past few months added a
data-type (i.e AVI, MOV, WAV, etc) to a list somewhere, and ONE or more
of those new types are not fully installed/supported or corrupt.
Does anyone know exactly where MEDIA-PLAYER gets it's entries that
appear in "Device" from the main menubar? I am making the assumption
that one of those is corrupt, not MPLAYER itself since I copied the
MPLAYER.EXE froma working system and no difference.
Anyone walked down this troubleshooting path?

Try installing the ActiveMovie control and see if that works
any better for you. It can play not only AVI, but Quicktime MOV
and MPEG files.
