My DECpc XL 466d2 has been running Windows 95 for about a year now, and
I've had to reinstall Windows 95 three times because of a corrupt
registry and a corrupt registry backup. One of those three times I had
to FDISK the C drive because simply reinstalling Windows 95 didn't
    work.

The reason I'm posting this reply is that my HiNote VP does not have
any of the problems with Windows 95 that my XL 466 does, and in fact
some applications that hang on my XL 466 work quite well on my laptop.

Does any of you out there have any empirical or anecdotal evidence that
the 486 DECpc series had some fundamental design flaws that make it
prone to failure with Windows 95? I ask because most of the boxes my
old team used were also XL 466d2 towers, and they all had similar
    problems with Windows 95.

I'm have a DECpc XL 466d2... as do a few others around here. Running
Windows 95 in most cases. Some run Windows NT Workstation. No
problems have been experienced. 24MB or 16MB on all of them.

2677.15use eru for backing up important files?SUBSYS::MSOUCYMentalmETALMikeFri Feb 21 1997 08:177

I believe there is a utility one the windows95 cdrom called ERU which I
think will make a backup of your important files to a floppy or
wherever you want to have them reside. I do this once in a while and it
started with almost 4 full floppies to 5 floppies (last time I ran it).
