2655.21.18 did not work for me eitherNETRIX::"[email protected]"JAson WoldThu Mar 20 1997 16:2712
I actually have a newer dc21x4.sys dated 1/2/97 that I pulled off of the
site listed in .18. This kit installed the file properly but the networking
is still
not working.

This is on a Celebris GL6200 with system bios v1.04.

The networking works fine under NT, too bad the other hardware I
need to install only works under Windows95.

    look in your device manager under Other - see if it's listed there as
    well.

Ok, it is listed under 'Other' and appears to be working there (there is no
yellow exclamation next to it like the Network Adapter has.) Now, how do I
tell Windows 95 Networking to use an 'Other' device for networking instead
of the Network Adapter which is not working?

Should I delete the Network Adapter and try to assign a driver to the 'Other'
device off of the CelebrisGL Restore CD? The other device currently says
there is not driver associated with it.

Is any of this procedure documented anywhere? I sure would like to see
a step by step procedure of how you are supposed to get this working.

As someone said earlier, God help the customers.

2655.24GL6200 + Ethernet CardNNTPD::"[email protected]"StuartTue May 27 1997 04:5925
Hiya,

 I've read all these and tried all the bits and bobs and fixes without
success.

 Strangely, when I first plug the PC in (out of the box, preloaded with 95)
, it works ok. However when the onsite engineers but on the current MCS build
it stops working and I get all the symptoms listed earlier.

 When switching on the PC, when it works, I look at the drivers tab and it
states
that it is not using any drivers !!!.........Lying blinking machine !!!

 Is there a working fix for this ?, or can someone help me out with the
drivers ?

 I now have 5 gl6200's and 5 very irate collegues who would like to use these
machines.

 Help please

    Why is it strange that the factory installed software (FIS) works? It
    seems to me you need to find out what drivers the "MCS build" is using
    for the 21142.

2655.26Reply to BillNNTPD::"[email protected]"StuartThu May 29 1997 09:1325
Bill,

 Thanks for the reply, The problem has come about in that the current help
desk build formats the hard drive then rebuilds it at the current standard.

 As it doesn't log onto the network, the chap in the help desk used the
restore CD that came with the PC and restored it back to how it was.
Unfortunatly the network card did not work then !

 I can only assume that the driver that was preloaded and the driver on the
restore CD are not the same.

 The chap has now tried to mirror the disk off one of the other machines that
is yet to be built to my machine that does not work, again without success.

 Is there a lovely soul out there who can tell me - layman terms - what I do
to get this network card working ?, if I need new drivers where do I get them
?

Many Thanks

 Stuart

    re: .26 by NNTPD::"[email protected]"

    Stuart,

    I don't keep up with the product software releases so I cannot say
    whether newer drivers are required. You may try comparing what you
    have against the ones posted on the web site, http://pcbu.ako.dec.com/.
    Just click on desktop followed by Celebris GL 6xxx. The 21142 drivers
    there are from the V1.0 restore CD. I haven't heard any complaints
    about them so I assume they work.

    If you feel you have the correct drivers, then it is time to look into
    improper installation of those drivers. As a start, you may try
    removing all knowledge of the card from the system. Then let the
    system detect the new hardware. At than point, ensure that you are
    loading the drivers that you think you should be loading and that you
    overwrite any old driver remnants on the disk.

    Good luck,

    /Bill

2655.29hey, it works, oh no hang on.CHEFS::16.43.128.45::madOh aay and up she rises....Tue Jun 03 1997 04:3314
It works !!!

 I don't know quite what I did, but I think it was a case of letting the GL
think it had found a new PCI bus ethernet adapter, then putting the new
drivers in on the HAVE DISK option. Anyway it works now.(well the network bit
does) I'm still getting FATAL EXCEPTION in VxD's all over the place. Any ideas
?

Thanks for the help.

Sorted it out, naff Simm;

 Don't think the GL likes the EDO / Non EDO ram mix I had in there, even though the book
says you can.

Such is life

Thanks
