Any pointers to the Microsoft 95 vs NT Workstation 4.0?

My P66 has now got 32mb memory, and I am toying with the idea of
    upgrading to NT v4.0 workstation.

Any views? Can I do an upgrade from 95?

    Cheers,

We have a corporate license for Windows NT Workstation... give it a try.
It really depends on your personal preferences and needs. You don't have
to blow away your existing environment. They can co-exist.

And since there isn't even an option to "upgrade" from Windows 95 to
Windows NT 4.0, it won't really touch your existing environment. (An
"upgrade" might appear in NT "5"... yeah, sure.) You'll need to
    re-install any applications for NT.

    >>> We have a corporate license for Windows NT Workstation...

Assuming NT4.0 workstation, what does "corporate license" mean ?

I assume "No Client License required" but pay for media ( ~ $20)
for either a new license or upgrade ?

However, VTX PCSOFTWARE does not list NT Workstation 4.0 in this
category and on calling Stream for clarification, I was told charge
would be about $170 for new license.

Am I missing something here ?

I'm not going there. Contact your business group management. There will
be a wider official announcement sometime. (It's not in my hands.) If
you want to feel extra-safe, feel free to use 3.51 Workstation for now,
since it's been corporate licensed for ages.

2328.41I still like 95WOTVAX::16.194.208.3::SharkeyaWho am I now ?Tue Feb 18 1997 17:5110
I have both on my system now. (200Mhz Pentium, 32Mb memory)

I actually feel more comfortable with 95 than NT4. NT has issues with some
16 bit apps and seems to run a bit slower at some things.

However, playing SIMGOLF across the network with my son while backing up
one of my had disks was really good......

I'm running both. I spend most of my time on NT and use W95 for old dos
games.

I prefer NT becuase I can restict my childrens access to anything. No
more coming home and finding the system in need of repair from curious kids
hitting the wrong menu item.

However, NT has its drawbacks which, while few, are really annoying. I assume
they will eventually be corrected, but until then, keep your W95 around
as old reliable.

I find that keeping W95 around is useful for two reasons. One, as .42
notes, is running some applications (games?) that NT won't hack. The
other is because I have an HP InkJet printer, and there aren't any
decent drivers for it under NT. Sadly, I expect the second problem to
    be never seriously addressed.

With only a P5-66, I don't think you will find NT very fun. 4.0 is a little
faster, but unless you have recent h/w with very popular video and other
peripherals, I think you will find that getting the right drivers is a lot
harder than you imagine.

NT at home doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, and Microsoft recently
released a tool to help the "kid lockdown" problem on Win-95. I haven't
tried it myself but anything is better than nothing.

NT in the office makes sense if you have access to NT file servers, and
don't need to install things often, as you will otherwise find yourself
running as Administrator all the time, and then there isn't much difference
between nt and win-95 that matters. Nt might be a little more stable, but
for everyone out there that claims NT is more stable, I can pull it down in
a minute doing something "trivial" so don't believe all you hear.

If you get a P5-200, then doing the NT route isn't so bad.
