RE: last few asking for a program to do the copy

In my latest copy of the CDW catalog, I found a commercial program that
supposedly does all of this.

DriveCopy by PowerQuest states that it will "automatically copy all the
data from our old drive to your new one". "Supports every major operating
system" (a little hyperbole there, they only mention Windows V3.x, NT and
DOS). "Easily and safely copies original drive to new drive", "without
losing a single preference, setting or byte of data".

$28.39 list price. I have not tried it, so caveat emptor, but I thought
I would mention it to all the people who need such things.

Standard disclaimer: I have no financial interest in CDW (beyond being a
satisfied customer) or in PowerQuest, I just read this in the catalog.

I've read several reviews of it and yes, it does exactly what it says
it does, does it fast, and does it completely. You can simply copy your
boot drive to a new drive that will become your new boot drive.

All the reviews say it works!

    Mark,

Did the reviews mention what happens when you copy a disk to a larger
one? Are the partition tables correct in the sense that any remaining
space can still be made into additional partitions?

I've used something similar from CSC (I know you know them, but others
may not... CSC stands for Corporate Systems) that works fine on SCSI
disks I've tried, including my above question about larger target
disks. It cost more than the one mentioned a few notes back though.

1761.30BULEAN::BANKSAre you correct or happy?Wed Jun 04 1997 17:007
I think the Powerquest product only copies to the same sized partition.
Since they also make Partition Magic, one might assume that they do the
proper thing as far as partition tables.

Actually, I'd get Partition Magic. It does the Partition Copy thing,
and allows you to diddle the size of the partition after it's copied
(as well as create new ones).
