1294.18When all else fails, reach for the backups.NPSS::BENZI'm an idiot, and I voteSun Mar 09 1997 00:2424
I just went through a round of this sort of problem, and figured I'd
record my experience here, since I tried the points raised here and
    did not make progress.

At some point, I noticed that my CD and Zip (parallel) drives were no
longer visible - I did not notice right away, since I usually boot NT.
Looking at the System under Control Panel, I saw several disk related
"yellow exclamation points" and my (floppy and conventional) drives
were showing up in MS-DOS Compatibility Mode. Nothing I tried fixed
it. I even found a write-up from Microsoft, # Q130179, but none of
those points helped, either. (And all was OK under NT, so I knew the
problem was all SW). (I even reinstalled W95 over the current dir - no
    help).

Finally, I remembered that I could restore a backup, and I was able to
find a recent one that was all-OK.

    Thank god for backups.

Some later perusal of my drive suggests that I was playing with
installing a pre-95 EZ-Scsi right after my good backup, and that sounds
like a reasonable candidate for what might have broken everything.
