1154.17 | Writing American English on an British Keyboard! | MARVIN::SHAND | Mike Shand | Mon Mar 24 1997 04:48 | 34 |
I was searching for a note about my problem, and came across this string, which is the closest. 1154.14 refers to setting up dynamic changing between english and spanish keyboards. I have a similar problem. I have a british keyboard on my home PC, but I'm used to using american keyboards, so I like it set up as an american keyboard so that the keys (@"$) are where my fingers know them, although the keytops are wrong. My children, however, find this confusing, and like "What you Press is What You GET". So I have set up BOTH keyboards and can dynamically switch between them as required. HOWEVER.... 1) Sometimes it just stops working. I can switch between the two either by clicking on the little En Status icon and selecting the other keyboard from the menu, or by using one of the two key sequences provided. (I actually prefer to select "none" for the key sequences since neither of the option is sufficiently obscure for it not to happen by chance) But then, after some time (doing what I don't know), it just stops working. You can click on the menu, or press the key sequences (if you have them defined) till you are blue in the face, but nothing changes. However, if you then go into the control panel stuff and change the key sequence and "apply" it starts working again... for awhile. I haven't yet figured out what triggers the failure but it is darned annoying. Any thoughts? 2. A somewhat less serious gripe, but the status bar indicator for both keyboards is "En" (for English, of course) for BOTH keyboards. So you have to hover the mouse over the status icon to find out which it really is. Anyone know how to change these to something sensible like "US" and "UK"? Mike |
