Here's a generic shortcut question:
Why does it seem that a shortcut is more than a "shortcut" to me?
I mean, I have these mailbox.pab and mailbox.pst "shortcuts" on
the desktop that really don't match the decor of the background
so I'd like to get rid of them. Simple ... I'm not deleting the
file, I'm deleting this "alternate method" of getting to it.
Well, it doesn't appear that that's the case, since after I sent
those two shortcuts to the toilet, Exchange couldn't find those
two files and wouldn't run properly.
So how do I get rid of these "shortcuts" and still have a working
application? Thanks for any info.

Hmmm, maybe I just answered my own question, although I'm sure
that the rest of you are smirking and nodding your heads. 8^)
Anyways, at the risk of stating the obvious ... the files are
located at \windows\desktop, which would explain why the prog-
ram[s] don't work when they're deleted.
So, before I start experimenting and really screw something up,
is it possible to move these files to a "real" directory and
change the program pointer[s] to reflect the new location[s]?
Thanks for any info.

I presume that you have an `inbox' icon on your desktop, if so, right click it,
select properties, highlight `address book', click properties.
You should be able to see where it looks for the file. Move the file to wherever
you want it. Specify the correct directory in the list box and OK everything on
the way out.
Do similar for Microsoft mail, you should be in business.
If you have not got a desktop `inbox' icon, the control panel mail icon does the
same.

That worked. At least, I think it worked, since I haven't really
been able to connect to the Exchange server since I moved the
files.
Thanks.

OK, maybe it didn't work so well.
I'm getting "The item could not be opened. Default set of folders
could not be found" when trying to compose a message/reply, even
though the set-up shows that the .pst and .pab files are where I
put them, in \windows.
However, I can see my address book.
What am I doing wrong?

Oh, SURE. No replies when I had the problem, but look at the
people coming out of the woodwork now that I have a solution!!
8^)
I went in and created yet another Personal Folders, using the
current location of the .pst file, and then deleted the "bad"
one. Now, this is odd because I'm almost positive that this
is exactly how I created the "bad" one in the first place, but
this time it worked.
