5476.0. "Doubt about Lat behaviour !" by VAXRIO::16.179.32.123::Manoel () Tue May 27 1997 17:54

	Hi, folks

I just want to know if it is supported or not !
A customer using Ultrix V4.4 has prepared two queues in /etc/printcap,
and these queues are associated to different tty's, wich are mapped via LAT
to the same physical device, while "ct" equal LAT in both.
I think it won't work fine once it can happen some problem with LAT
while trying to control the flow of data beeing sent to the same physical
device, that is a server port.
Thanks in advance for any help.
	Regards.

    Hi Manoel

I'm not certain, but I think it will not work.

If two print jobs are queued to the same server port, I think tey will
be mixed up together into one large, meaningless printout :-(

If I had a terminal server, I would test it. Can you test it yourself?
    The results could be interesting.

If these are two separate ttys, it'll work just fine. To the terminal
server, it just looks like two system vying for the same port. The
terminal server knows how to deal with that.

And, even if it didn't, I think the lpd subsystem has provisions
for two queues using a common lock file to control access to the
same device. I've never tried this though.

	Ok, folks.
In fact it is working, but sometimes one of the queues just stuck,
with a status wainting for it to became ready.
Then the customer has to stop and start the queue and it starts to
work again.
I'll talk to them that it is not supported.
	Thanks.
