Reading the entries on sports drinks is really interesting. Basically, every possible theory concievable has been mentioned, including one which said "fructose is good, glucoes is bad". The current thinking is that glucose is a good glycogen replenisher *after* a long workout for someone who is reasonably fit. For overweight folks such as myself, the last thing I need is any sort of sugar, which would just replenish the fat faster than I could possibly burn it. Using glucose before hand will delay the body's urge to convert fat to energy, which is probably the better energy source fo exercise under two hours in duration. Electrolytes are mostly cosmetic (electrolyte is a synonym for "minerals", as in "vitamins and..."). So, I don't need a "sport drink" at least for a while. But I did read the labels in the store one night, and everything uses either fructose or high fructose corn syrup. Reply .5 mentioned a drink called ERG (Energy Replenishing Glucose). Is it still available? Know where I can get it (in case I need it in a year or two? :-). jeb | |||||

ERG really stands for Electrolyte Replacement with Glucose. Yes, it will supply some energy via glucose but it's primary purpose is for quick fluid replenishment. I have some at home and it has a 1-800 number on the label which can be used to order it. It's not that expensive and it goes a long way. I'll get the number and post it here or mail it to you. You can order ERG from this phone number 1-800-283-6505. I believe it's about $8 for enough ERG to make 5 gallons. Keith |
