693.0. "TRAINING - CHICAGO WEEK OF MAY 5" by CPDEV::SWFULLER () Mon Apr 14 1997 09:51
Capacity Planning Engineering is glad to announce a Capacity Planning
Methodology class, course number QS-SICA9-CZ in downtown Chicago May 5 to
9, 1997. This class is intended for Information Systems Professionals,
System and Network Integration consultants, and systems engineers,
(including Digital personnel, customers and partners).
Research has shown that consultants and customers who use POLYCENTER Capacity
Planner only use about 20% of the tool's capability. Our objective in the
class to teach the underlying methodology as well as hand-on usage of the tool
to they can produce higher quality capacity plans.
Capacity Planning's technical capability has enhanced dramatically over the
past few years. We now have the capability to model systems, networks, and
applications in a client/server environment. Technology now available to
collect system information from competitive UNIX platforms and use Digital
Capacity Planner to model future requirements. In addition, Digital's new
sizing tool Capacity Planner for Windows, allows for easier sizing of
applications where data collection is not possible. Users will see how
this tool can be used for Systems Performance Enginering.
SPECIAL NOTES:
o Sudents are encouraged to bring performance data to build their own models,
making the labs more reality based.
o One full day applied to sizing using Capacity Planner for Windows.
Students are suggested to bring in a case study (known current scenerio)
where sizing of systems is required.
Location: Digital Equipment Corporation
225 W. Washington St,
Chicago IL
Date: May 5 to 9 1997
Format: Lecture, lab with training done by the capacity planning
engineers.
Products being used: POLYCENTER Capacity Planner V4.0A, POLYCENTER Data
Collectors, OpenAVIATOR from Spire Technologies, and POLYCENTER Capacity
Planner for Windows.
Internal Price: $1,500 USD
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Objective:
Student who is fluent in operating systems and system tuning will be able
to deliver simple capacity planning studies in homogeneous environments
(unix or vms) or with mentorship be able to complete a c/s study. Introduction
to Multi-vendor capacity planning will be presented.
Prerequisites:
All attendies are urged to bring performance data to the class. Once confirmed
in the class, engineering can assist in how to collect the appropriate data.
