I have a customer that recently upgraded from PW 5.0D ECO3 to PW 5.0E ECO1 on Alpha OpenVMS 6.2. Since the upgrade they have been experiencing intermittent licensing problems with their W95 and win3.1 clients. The majority of their clients request and obtain a valid license. However, about 10% of their clients get a no license access denied message when they attempt to connect to the server. They have not upgraded to PW32 for their clients at this time. Is there a conflict between the license requestor bits on 5.0D and 5.0E? If there is, will upgrading the W95 clients to PW32 solve their problem? What is the solution for the Win3.1 clients?

Steve, The quilty process in these instances is pwrk$license_r. So check it's log files (pwrk$logs:pwrk$license_registrar_<node>.log & pwrk$license_r_<node>.log) for errors. I'm not aware of any license registrar issues in v5.0E eco1. It's likely the problem is with the pw95 client license bits - get the latest bits (or just upgrade to pw32) and see if the problems go away. I think others who've reported the problem in this conference have had success using the latest bits... Paul |
