4303.0. "Personal Workstation 200i, Network, Pathworks file copy slow" by ZUR01::MISCHLER (Christian Mischler - Switzerland 760-2706) Mon May 26 1997 14:32
Hello,
At a customer side we have a strange behaviour with a PWS200i and an
OpenVMS Pathworks server.
In the same network there are some Compaq Intels (also 200MHz Pentium Pro).
The Compaq is always fast and constant when copying a file from Pathworks.
The DEC PWS200i is slow and the results are varying a lot.
Using ftp to copy the same file from the same VMS system, both systems are
fast and constant. The DEC PWS200i is even a little bit faster.
FTP Pathworks
DEC PWS200i 22s (very constant) 27s to 45s (most results are close to 35s)
Compaq 23s (very constant) 26s to 27s (very constant)
Both Intel machines are running NT 4.0 with Service Pack 2.
I connected the Compaq to the network where usually the DEC is connected.
There was no difference in the results.
Does somebody have a hint where to look for?
Are there timing and/or block size parameters in the Pathworks for OpenVMS
product?
Regards,
Chris

| How about making an IRIS trace and examining the flow control.
