Hello, I think this server is a bit confused, the NET START commands shows NETLOGON as running yet the ADMIN/ANAL shows that netlogon service failed to start. The resulting symptoms are that they have trouble keeping this node (BDC) in sync with the (PDC) and they are also having problems with users not being able to connect to network drives. Any ideas as to what would be causing this. See C970506-6174 for more info / dial in . Thanks, Johnny. ************************** NODE BFG01 configuration: ************************** $ write sys$output f$getsyi ("hw_name") VAX 4000-100A $ pwver Information on PATHWORKS for OpenVMS images installed on this system: Image Name Image Version Link date Linker ID ------------------------------ ---------------- ----------------- ------------- PWRK$LMSRV V5.0-510E 2-MAR-1997 05:17 $ admin/anal/since=19:26 ================= EVENT #49646 ================== Event Time: 6-MAY-1997 19:27:23.21 Node: BFG01 Process Id: 0000023D Event: Netlogon service failed to start Event Source: LAN Manager Daemon Event Class: Error Text: NetServerReqChallenge failed. John, can you post more details. What is net error /revers saying, any errors in logfile. Is the pdc PATHWORKS or a NT box. What happens when you do a net stop netlogon /net start netlogon. Rob

Johnny, If this is BF Goodrich then talk to me. For those of you listening ... There seems to be an increasing number of customers who are attempting to keep domain members (BDCs and a PDC) spread across a WAN using DECnet or NETBEUI. Of course we tell them turn on IP and use the LMHOSTS feature but they all have various reasons for not wanting to do that. Fine, in that case I tell them don't cry when UAS replication fails or is intermittent! Mike
4282.3 | It is BF Goodrich | VMSNET::J_DOUGLAS | Wed May 07 1997 13:48 | 53
Yes it is B. F. Goodrich. They are trying to run in a domain spread accross a WAN using DECnet as the protocol. The errors in net error /rev are : as logged on BDC.
