| Walter,
What specific version of the v5 server do they have ($ pwver)?
BCM shouldn't affect Win95 clients (only clients running DEC basic
redir). But, you say:
>Only when connecting to PW V5 Printshares, they are asked for Passwort
>when they want to start Printjobs. After giving the LM Passwort they
>can print. Strange now, this only happens when LM password and UAF
>password are out of sync. As soon it is set to the same they are not
>prompted for a password and can print okay.
Are these printers setup as network printers such that the connection
to the printer is made when a user sends a print job to that printer or
are the print share connections established, say, during Win95 startup?
If they attempt a connection from a DOS window using NET USE LPT1:
\\server\printshare, do they also get prompted for a password?
And what password are you changing when you sync them? Are you setting
the UAF password the same as the domain/uas password, vice versa, or
are both being changed to the same new value?

| hallo Paul,
thanks for your reply.
The customer uses PW V5.0D ECO3 on the VMS Server, also the WIN95
printer gets connected during printing. The printer is setup as
network printer (\\servername\printshare).
The passwords get synchronised with 'winpass', a DEC unsupported
utility i do not know much about.
Customer must insert the LANMAN Password of the user when connecting
to the printer.
It turned out, that customer uses different domains. She logs in to
a domain on a WAN, but connects the printers on a PW V5 Server on
the LAN and in a different domain.
I told her to make sure the passwords for the LANMAN users are the
same on both domains, otherwise it would be normal that she gets
prompted for a LM password.
Still i do not really know, why the synchronisation of UAF and UAS
has any influence on this behaviour ?
any further thoughts ?
