Without an IRIS trace, it will be difficult to verify what is happening
here. There were no changes that I'm aware of that would cause this
type of behavior change. Please acquire a trace and escalate. We'll
investigate.

4252.3 | It's a MS problem | COPHK::copvm5.dmo.dec.com::cop02::jesper | | Fri Apr 11 1997 06:27 | 29 |

This is a MS problem. And they dont want to fix it.
You can reproduce it if:
You are out of disk quota
AND
you try to create a file in filemanager on the
share where you are out of quota.
It is best reproduced if EMM386 are used too. Then you
will get an EMM386 error.
The real problem is that MS Windows 3.1/3.11 dont expect
(and cant handle) a status of 'no disk quota' in certain
situations, like file create.
The reason it works in 5.0c and not in 5.0D-ECOxxx, is that
the SMB specs was not followed to the last detail in 5.0C,
but is in 5.0D.
This problem has both been IPMT'ed and escalated to Microsoft
Premiun Support. (cant remember the IPMT #).
Microsoft accepted it as their problem, but no fix....

| We have made an IRIS trace and our first impression is
there is a wrong error code in the error message from
the server (hardware error).
We will further investigate and possibly IPMT when the
problem is more clearly determined.

4252.5 | how to get a workaround? | EVTAI1::ncd.evt.dec.com::VAN_DER_VEEN | vanderveen | Mon May 05 1997 05:21 | 6 |
| Hello,
We also have customers that have experienced this problem since they upgraded to 5.0d
ECO3 or higher and wish a solution or workaround. As it appears difficult to justify an IPMT
with severity level 2, I'd like to know if there's any sense in entering an IPMT lvl 3.

| Just for the record, I want to let you know the
following.
My collegue Paul Bakker reported the problem to
Engineering. The CFS number is 50750. It is
definite a MicroSoft problem, only workaround
is to use the Windows for Workgroups redir, not
the Microsoft DOS enhanced redir.
