4237.0. "Can't select FDDI on V5.0E" by VMSNET::J_DOUGLAS () Mon Mar 31 1997 22:55

    Hello,

We have a customer who has TCP/IP running over FDDI. He has
set up his logicals to start the knb on FWA0: but he said that
when it is starting it says it is starting on the Ethernets
MAC address. He is not able to connect over IP on the FDDI. He
    can Ping OK.

Any Known issues with V5.0E server and the device logicals ?

He has done the following defines.

            DEFINE/SYSTEM NETBIOS$DEVICE FWA0:
            DEFINE/SYSTEM PWRK$NETBEUI_DEVICE FWA0:
            DEFINE/SYSTEM PWRK$KNBDAEMON_DEVICE FWA0:

BELOW IS A COPY OF HIS LOGICALS AND SO FOURTH.

    Thanks,
    		Johnny

Johnny,

IP is on both network devices (SDA), and there is no indication I can
see that PATHWORKS is linked to the Ethernet device rather than the
FDDI. NetBIOS is certainly on the FDDI.

However, this is a multiple interface configuration. I am on tonight
to finish writing up a STARS article about that. Can you get him to
provide the results of a show interface/full command in UCX? It is
possible that may be the source of the problem. In connection with
that, which subnet is the NT box in? The following says a lot:

>system. If we un-plug the ethernet cable from the NT box - it doesn't
>connect.

That implies that he does connect on Ethernet. It also implies that
the NT client is in the subnet using Ethernet. To connect on FDDI, the
NT client would need the other server address in lmhosts.
