Will it be available from DSNlink? Or how does a customer get it?
Thanks!

It usually takes additional time before the kit is available in the
DSNlink database. Might want to get on Linda Downing's mailing list
(ORABX::DOWNING_L) for PATHWORKS ECO announcements. Linda can give a
pretty good estimate as to when the kits show up in dsnlink and champ...

| I just checked, it cannot yet be ordered from DSNlink.
I'll add a reply here when I hear that SSB is geared up to accept orders for
tapes from DSNlink and the US/CSC CHAMP system.
Sometimes the delay between TIMA accessibility and SSB accepting orders is
3 to 4 days. I've seen it take as long as two weeks. Lately, its been 3 to 4
days.
The kit is too big to be electronically transferred over DSNlink. If a customer
orders it from there, they will be shipped a tape. For that reason, it does not
show up in DSNlink until SSB is ready to ship tapes.
Customers with valid support contracts CAN get it electronically from the
Digital Services Patch Web Page. It is under the 'Contract-Only' or
'entitlement' section (since it is a complete kit).
For access to 'Contract-Only, customers need a 'key'. DSNlink support will
generate one for the customer. They 'key' is not active until the day AFTER it
is requested. DSNlink support in the U.S is 800-354-9000, or the customer can
send VMSmail to DSN$DSNLINK, they need to include Full name, voice telephone and
FAX telephone.....or complete the Access agreement which appears at
http://www.service.digital.com/html/patch_entitle.html.
The customer will be faxed the 'key' along with instructions.

| The article in the ECO-Summary database for PWRKV50E_E01050 will show up in
DSNlink tomorrow. Customers can use it to order tapes.
US/CSC personnel can now order it via CHAMP to send tapes from SSB.

4229.7 | Directory Replication Limit (1000 files) PW5 Server | GIDDAY::argus.stl.dec.com::Harkness | | Tue Apr 01 1997 03:32 | 39 |
| A question from a customer....
Pathworks V5 (Lanmanager 2.2) Directory Replication Limit (1000 files)
Does someone know how to overcome the Pathworks V5 directory replication limit of
1000 files in a directory (short of upgrading to Pathworks V6)?
We have a large network with many subnets supporting a single Windows NT
(lanmanager 3.0) domain. The Subnet containing the Primary Domain controller
(Windows NT) also contains several Pathworks V5 (Digital Unix V3.2C) servers.
Some run other critical applications such as ORACLE which would entail a large
(unacceptable) downtime to upgrade to UNIX V4.0 & PATHWORKS V6.
The problem is that when 1000 files is reached in an import directory, file
replication stops. (Yes 1000 files! including 1 file for each user's customized
network connections). Replication will not recommence until the export file
count drops below 1000 files and files are removed from the import directory
on the server (to fall below the 1000 file limit).
I have found references to many implementations of LANMANAGER 2.2 servers having
this limit (search Microsoft's Knowledge base on the Web - Q115391, point 20).
Does anyone know why?
Windows NT and Pathworks V6.0 don't have this problem.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this problem?
We are currently contemplating turning off netlogon on the PATHWORKS servers
during logon hours (creating user password update delays of up to one day on
the PATHWORKS servers).
Any input welcome
Thanks in advance,
Greg Harkness
