A customer complains a problem which I can reproduce on my system (VMS V6.2 Pathworks V5.0D-ECO-3): - Change the permission on a directory - PrmTree to propagate the permition to all subdirectories Now, any directories with a name of no more than 8 characters get changed. Directories with longer names are ignored! Is there a distinct reason for this? Is this documented somewhere? Edwin

>Is there a distinct reason for this? Yes, the so-called "Unix redirector" in the LAN Manager API library only supports file names (and therefore directory) names up to a maximum of 8.3. For PATHWORKS V6.0, the limit has been changed to support the full range of VMS file names. >Is this documented somewhere? This is first documented in the V5.0E release notes, although it has been a restriction since the very first version of V5.0. | |||||

As a work around try $ SET ACL /LIKE=file=short-name-dir long-name-dir |
