4177.0. "FDDI (FWA0:) - TCP/IP" by OTOOA::GMACDONALD (Its badluck to be superstitious) Wed Feb 26 1997 15:32

Hi. I have a customer who is having trouble getting the KNBDAEMON process
to start when using a FDDI controller. The logicals PWRK$KNBDAEMON_DEVICE,
PWRK$NETBEUI_DEVICE and NETBIOS$DEVICE are all set to FWA0: which is the
FDDI device name. When starting the PWRK$CONFIG_ERROR_ALPHA1.LOG file contains
the following error:

Error at 26-FEB-1997 14:53:53.02
-Function "LocateProcess" in module "CmtConfig"
Unable to get detatched process parameters for unknown process, FWA0:
Status Code = 1

UCX is working fine as you can PING, TELNET, etc. to the system. Pathworks
connections using DECnet also work fine.

Any ideas what may be causing this?

Thanks. Grant.

    Grant,

    1.  $ show dev pw - does PWIP0: exist?

    2.  $ type sys$manager:ucx$pwipacp_alpha1.log - any errors?

    3.  $ anal/sys
        sda> set out x.x
        sda> show lan
        sda> exit
        Post the x.x file here

    4.  $ show logical/full pwrk$knbdaemon_device ! post the output here

    5. $ ucx show interface/full ! post the output here

    Unable to get detatched process parameters for unknown process, FWA0:

    FWA0: is no process!!! There is a logical wrongly defined.
    Do a sho log NETBIOS*
         sho log PWRK*

    Check all logicals.

    Also its common that when you define device names that
    you put an _ in front.
    So _FWA0:

The 3 logicals that were defined were:
	PWRK$KNBDAEMON_DEVICE
	PWRK$NETBEUI_DEVICE
	NETBIOS$DEVICE

All were defined to be FWA0:. Are you saying that it should be "_FWA0:"
instead? I'll have the customer send me a list of the logicals and have him
follow the steps in .1.

Thanks. Grant.
4177.4Fixed; thanksOTOOA::GMACDONALDIts badluck to be superstitiousThu Feb 27 1997 12:356
Problem fixed. Started to have a closer look at things and noticed that
PWRK$KNBDAEMON_DEVICE wasn't correctly defined (PWRK$KNBDAEMON instead;
missing _DEVICE.) They changed the logical, rebooted and everything is okay
now.

Thanks. Grant.
