4154.0. "Support for Recycle Bin?" by ALFSS2::GRAFT_J () Wed Feb 12 1997 16:49

    Hi,

    I have a question from a customer about the network drive support
    on our server for the Win 95, NT 4.0 feature of the Recycle Bin.

    When you drag a file from the Pathworks 5.0e server network drive
    to the Recycle Bin it will only allow you to delete it, not move
    it to the bin.

    I know this Recycle Bin was not around when the version of LAN Manager
    our server is based on was written, but am wondering if we plan
    support for a "Network based Recycle Bin" in a future release.

    The Pathworks for Macintosh server software supports this but of course
    this has been the Macintosh standard from the beginning.

    Thanks for any information.

4154.1how would PATHWORK "support" this?CPEEDY::KENNEDYSteve KennedyWed Feb 12 1997 19:0312
    .0> When you drag a file from the Pathworks 5.0e server network drive
    .0> to the Recycle Bin it will only allow you to delete it, not move
    .0> it to the bin.

    When you drag a file from A: (diskette) to the Recycle Bin it also only
    allows you to delete it, not move it to the bin.

    Perhaps I'm mising something here, but this doesn't seem to be a
    PATHWORKS thing (?).

4154.2Is this the expected results?ALFSS2::GRAFT_JThu Feb 13 1997 00:1224
    Hi,

    In regards to .1 I have not tried it from a floppy drive only from a
    network hard drive on the server and local hard drives. When you drag
    a file from a local hard drive to the Bin it does not delete it
    right away it just moves it there.

    When you try to drag a file from a network mounted drive to the Bin
    it will not allow a move, you get prompted for a YES or NO to delete
    the file.

    Perhaps the Recycle Bin only works as expected on permanently mounted
    drives and not removable media or network drives.

    I will try two 95 systems and mount/share the drives between them and
    see how it works.
    I don't want to go back to the customer and tell them, so what, thats
    also how the floppy drive works. I don't know if Pathworks could
    support this if it's not possible then fine I can tell the customer
    that. But I could use help with the answer to give them.

    Thanks,
    Jim

4154.3Answered my own question?ALFSS2::GRAFT_JThu Feb 13 1997 00:4510
    I tested this on two Win 95 systems sharing folders between them.
    They work as the Pathworks server and will not allow the MOVE to
    the Recycle Bin only presents the DELETE option, so maybe I answered
    this in my reply in .2.

    So I can tell the customer this, I don't know about the results between
    two NT 4.0 systems, but I expect the same.

    Thanks,
