4144.0. "do NOT validate BDC" by TYCHE::WOLFGANG (Wolfgang Kubasek) Tue Feb 04 1997 08:14

Hello all,

is there a hidden switch or an other possibilty die disalow
an PW BCD to validate logon requests ?

I only want to use the VAX as file server and so I have	protected
shares on it with a replicated UAS from th WNT PDC.

Hi Mike,

to make this VAX to a MEMBER ins't what I want.
When a user is changing the password, which mechanism will tell
the new one to PW VAX ?
I know, I can start the login service too but in this case
it is possible that the VAX will validate the login request
but doesn't know anything about my login procedure on the
c:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\SCRIPTS\IMPORT of the NT's PDC and BDC's.

	any better ideas ?

This is a common misconception ... Be advised MEMBER servers DO run the
NETLOGON service!!!!!! They just don't validate NET LOGON requests. A
Member server can do EVERYTHING a BDC can except validate NET LOGON
(and associated tricks like providing scripts). If a user wants to
change a password and they are on a Member server the DCL $ NET
PASSWORD will communicate to the PDC.
