4137.0. "Microsoft NT clients get "Error 59"" by VMSNET::ALLERTON (Episode d'Azur) Fri Jan 31 1997 17:22

    One of our customers at Microsoft reports the following problem
    (Error 59 is generated on NT4.0 or 3.51 clients (with referenced
    service packs applied):

    I told him I'd post his question since I've gotten word recently (and
    can't recall where it is documented) that there are some problems with
    some of the recent Microsoft service packs and PATHWORKS V5
    interaction:

Operating environment:
================

PC client (NT351-sp5 or NT4-sp1/sp2)
    |
    | Making "net use" connections ( By multiple users on the same NT
client )
    |
VAX/OpenVMS-6.1 or 6.2
Running Pathworks server 5.0 D or C (In SHARE level security mode)

Problem description:
===============
>The ERROR 59 appears to be related to having 2 or more user accounts (on the
>same server) connected to the VAX/Pathworks share and one of the accounts
>doing a 'net use \\vax\share /d' command.

Steps to produce error:
================
>1.	Open up a command prompt.
>2.	Open up a second command prompt as another user
> using the SU.EXE (utility) available in the resource kit).
>3.	In the 1st session do a 'net use \\vax\share passwd'.
>4.	In the 2nd session do a identical net use command.
>5.	Now we have 2 users from the same machine connected to the VAX\Pathworks
>share
>6.	If either one deletes the connection using 'net use \\vax\share /d',
    the
>error will appear the next time either process tries to access \\vax.
>7.	Any processes with a \\vax connection on the server will fail from that
>point on as well, \\vax is unreachable by any process (on that server) from
>that point on until the PC server (Pathworks client) is booted.
