I am experiencing DECTERM crashes and "cannot find font" messages since I upgraded to VMS V7.1. I have applied the remedial patch kit for MOTIF V1.2-4 and it does not help!! Some typical missing font messages are - can't find font -*-terminal-medium-r-normal--18-140-100-100-c-11-dec-dectech -*-terminal-medium-r-bold--18-140-100-100-c-11-iso8859-1 -*-terminal-medium-r-narrow--18-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1 The last message occurs when I set the decterm to 132 columns. after you dismiss the font message and the system attempt to repaint the screen - then all the decterms crash (disappear). if I run decw$utils:xlsfont all the above fonts are present in the form of -bitstream-terminal ... So whats the clause of the problem? I find it very irritating to loose all my decterm when ever I switch the editor into 132 column mode. regards, Bob Wheater DECdns Engineering

In LOGIN.COM do:
$DEFINE DECTERM_DIAG 1
$DEFINE DECW$DECTERM_OUTPUT file.name
Login to that node from somewhere and:
$SET DISPLAY/CREAT/NODE=0/TRANS=LOCAL (if is not set already)
$MC DECW$TERMINAL from that session
The DECterm controller will start with some output. Create a DECterm from
Session Manager (that station) or from another set_host_session ($CREAT/TERM).
The DECterm (if the same display) will start "under controll" of the previous
created controller.
Post the output of (crashing) MC DECW$TERMINAL and the contents of file.name
here.
Thats what I would do :-)
