5822.0. "CDE/VMS File Manager not working with DFS mount and Access Control List" by CSC32::M_KETER (Mike Keter, Customer Support Center/CS) Fri Apr 04 1997 17:01

Openvms 6.2-1h3,
Motif 1.2-4
DFS server X2.0-1
DFS client 2.0

User states that she brings up the file manager in CDE to view the files
on a DFS mounted disk and she sees the files fine but all the files
show up with a lock symbol on them and cannot be accessed. All the files on
the DFS mount have no UIC protection and all access is through access
control lists. She mentioned that using the Fileview (from Session Manager)
does NOT exhibit the problem.

He did some more testing at his end and found that local access control
lists DID work correctly. Also, accessing the files from DCL did not show
any problems even though the access control list did not show up with a
directory/full command (which is expected).

According to one of our local DFS people, the access control lists should
not be visible on remote nodes but they should still function, which is
correct when using DCL and Fileview.

- Is this a restriction of the CDE File Manager?
- Is there a workaround/solution to this problem?

This is a fairly big customer (GlaxoWelcome) so any help would be
appreciated.

I don't think the CDE File Manager supports access control lists.
