| The French language variant DECwindows Motif OpenVMS User Interface/Franais
V1.2-3C is the same as the V1.2-3 language variant with the addition of the
VAXMOTF07_U3012 patch kit, which is needed to allow it to run on OpenVMS
V7.1. See note 5414 for the location of this patch kit.
Because of the way the Software Product Library (CONDIST) CD is built, we
have to create a new version number every time there is a change to a
product. Also, because the VAX and Alpha versions of the European language
variants have the same product name we have to use different version
numbers for VAX and Alpha if the kits are different.
The original V1.2-3 language variants were all shipped as V1.2-3 except
for the East European VAX language variants, which shipped as V1.2-3A.
This was necessary because the Worldwide Support kit (needed for the East
European and Asian LVs but not for the West European and Hebrew LVs)
included executable images, so the kits were different for VAX and Alpha.
Because of the threads changes in OpenVMS V7.1, DECwindows Motif V1.2-3
(U.S. or LV) won't run correctly unless the appropriate patch kit is
installed. For the U.S. product and the West European and Hebrew LVs this
patch kit is VAXMOTF07_U3012 for VAX and ALPMOTF07_U3012 for Alpha. We
wanted to make sure that the appropiate kit for each LV was shipped on the
consolidated CD, but because the West European language variants (in
addition to the East European LVs) were now different for VAX and Alpha we
had to assign new version numbers which were different for VAX and Alpha.
For consistency we decided to use the same version numbers for all the
language variants. We'd already used V1.2-3A for the original East
European VAX LVs, so we decided to use V1.2-3B for all the LVs with
the Alpha patch kit and V1.2-3C for all the LVs with the VAX patch kit.
The U.S. version of DECwindows Motif V1.2-3 plus the appropriate patch kit
(VAXMOTF07_U3012 for VAX, ALPMOTF07_U3012 for Alpha) is called V1.2-3A for
both VAX and Alpha.
What a tangled web we weave...
