5789.0. "process crash with XIO fatal error 0 and 80" by GYPOS3::EIBL (Reinhard Eibl @FKR, DTN 865-4027) Fri Feb 28 1997 11:39
Hello all,
a customer needs urgent help on following 2 X error messages:
(they appear under all versions Digital UNIX 3.2c ... 4.0b)
1)
XIO: fatal IO error 0 (Error 0) on X server "smna1:0.0" after
31177024 requests (31177023 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
2)
XIO: fatal IO error 80 (No message of desired type) on X server
"smna1:0.0" after 30578319 requests (30578318 known processed) with
0 events remaining.
Where can i find more details on error X11 numbers ? (a www-page ?)
Background:
The customer (a software house) writes applications beeing used to prepare
surgical operations and as online assistance during these operations.
Program or X server crashes may become fatal in the last case.
First they had sporadic X server crashes. It turned out that they use signals
for inter-process communication which lead to problems with non-reentrant
routines from Xtoolkit and motif. Then they modified the application be signal
free and to use threads instead with the result that X server now remains
stable and "only" the application crashes (for the surgeons that makes not
much difference).
To get more info customer inserted an X error-handler which forces application
to create a core upon XIO errors 0 and 80. Following the stack trace.
(line 0-6 are caused by the user written X error-handler and have nothing to
do with the initial xio errors 0 or 80)
