Hi,
I have a customer with a factory installed AlphaStation 255/233,
hardware model type 1260. He is running OpenVMS V6.2-1H3 and has
a PB2GA-JA, Powerstorm 3D10 card.
When he boots the alpha and logs in via the DECwindows Motif option on
the New Desktop Startup box, everything works as expected. When he
tries this with the New Desktop option, it takes approx 15minutes from
that point until the full working version.
This is how the time is split up.
1) User enters username and password.
2) There is a flash of full black screen
3) The blue "New Desktop Starting" screen comes up with a timer. This
stays up for approx 4 minutes
4) A black screen comes up with a moveable arrow pointer, until the
15minutes is up.
5) The New Desktop is then Black & White, not colour.
Looking at the ERRORLOG.;1 we see:

dtsession: Screen lock when the screen saver is turned on is not

It's my guess that there is some issue between the ColorServer and the
GQ driver and card. Has anyone seen this before ? what should I do ?

| Hi,
I'm going to IPMT this one now. I can't find any references to this
issue at all. We have placed $exit's at the start of the sylogin and
login.com file, with no improvement.
What's strange is that normal decwindows (from the option button) works
fine.

The IPMT is the way to go.
First stop is the Motif patches -- there is a large DECwindows Motif
patch for V1.2-4, and another for (pre-CDE) V1.2-3. I'd apply this
patch regardless of whether or not it addresses this specific problem.
