Does anybody know more about Autodesk's decision to drop supporting Alpha?
Only a few months ago, they had publicly announced that Release 14 was
going to support Alpha NT.

Unix
AutoCAD, Release 14, which delivers dozens of enhancements to design and
drafting professionals worldwide, will begin shipping "sometime" in the
May/June quarter. "AutoCAD Release 14 runs on Intel microprocessor-based
machines running Windows NT 4.0, Windows NT 3.51, and Windows 95. We have
no plans to support Alpha or compatible platforms at this time. We will
continue to sell DOS, UNIX, and Windows 3.1x versions of AutoCAD Release 13
and/or AutoCAD Release 12 as demand warrants... AutoCAD Release 14 requires
a machine capable of running the Windows NT or Windows 95 operating
systems.
... Optimal System Configuration: We have found under testing that the Pen-
tium Pro with 64MB memory delivers the best value for "power" AutoCAD users
working with complex drawings and heavy applications. However, if you work
with large drawings, especially those exceeding 15MB, you may require more
memory...

| The Alpha spin control seems to be to point out that Autodesk is
"in trouble" (as mr. bill put it) and no longer a major player in
the CAD market, hence the loss of AutoCAD v14 from Alpha is of
minor consequence. Mr. bill also points out that it needs 64Mb
of memory now on x86 (for what that's worth).
