1032.0. "10 second delay when unlocking workstation" by LNZALI::BACHNER (Mouse not found. Click OK to continue) Wed Apr 23 1997 01:51

I'm sure I've read an entry on this problem some time ago, but can't find
anything in this notes file or in DECWET::WINDOWS_NT, so pointers are
appreciated.

When I locked my workstation (AlphaStation 400, Win NT 4.0 + SP2, member of a
domain), and pressed <Ctrl+Alt+Del> to unlock it, I always got an almost
immediate response (logon window popped up). Since a few weeks, however, there
is a delay of about 10 seconds between the removal of the box that says 'press
Ctrl/Alt/Del to unlock' and the appearance of the dialogue box where I can type
my password.

Does anyone know how I can make my workstation more 'responsive', just as it was
a few weeks back ?

Thanks for your help,
Hans.

My system did that as long there were some network drives that were not
connected properly. That is, as long as Explorer showed a drive with a
big, red X through it then I had a delay.

Another delay came when I changed some passwords in a few but not all
my areas. Once I got all the passwords synchronized then logins were
fast.

Another delay come from lousy drivers or from great drivers running
lousy hardware. If for some reason my CD drive decides to fail then
the CD driver ties things up for 30 second periods. Bummer!

Surely there are other delay sources.
