1022.0. "DECthreads for NT available on non-DEC NT platforms?" by NETRIX::"[email protected]" (Dave Martino) Fri Mar 28 1997 11:01

A customer has posed this question to us based on info he found on
the following Digital web page:
http://www.partner.digital.com/www-swdev/pages/Home/TECH/documents/Digital_UNI
/V4.0/AA-Q2DPC-TKT1_html/thrd0237.html#nt_ast

"Can you tell me if DECthreads is a product that can be purchased and
used on any NT system, or is it just supplied with DEC NT platforms?"

part of the text he quoted from the above web page:

"C.1 Using DECthreads Routines on
Windows NT and Windows 95 Systems

DECthreads is supported in the Win32 subsystem of the Windows NT operating
system and
Windows 95. The Win32 subsystem provides support for multithreading through
the Win32
Application Programmer's Interface (API). The Win32 API allows for thread
creation, termination,
synchronization, and other thread functions. DECthreads adds value to the
Win32 API by providing
the POSIX 1003.4a API as well as the other DECthreads APIs, which are also
available across all
Digital platforms and other DCE platforms. The POSIX 1003.4a API allows for
ease of portability
of applications written to it."

Thanks,

It has been said many times before...

If you need an official answer to a question on a timely basis,
you must use the official support channels. In this case you
need to contact the DECthreads product manager, or so it seems.
Who that person is, I don't know and "VTX PM" isn't helping me.
Perhaps someoneelse can figure that out...

I wanted to reply with a comment that VTX PM (for Product Manager)
hasn't worked in a long time. I was going to be helpful and recommend
the Windows NT Software Public Rollout. This used to be a Readers
Profile option or also accessed via VTX IR.

The new way is webir.das.dec.com. Just search for "rollout". The
best way to get the product manager contact info is to look in the
    Rollout Guide.
1022.4Thank you...NETRIX::"[email protected]"dave martinoTue Apr 08 1997 04:329
Thank you for the reply. My management directs us in sales support
to use the notes conferences to get technical answers. It has become
increasing frustrating when trying to solve difficult technical issues
when notes I post go unanswered (on some conferences)for days and even
weeks! Some are never answered.
Thank you for taking the time to reply to my note. I will try to track
down the product manager using the method you suggest.

Another method available to us is to call 1-800-DIGITAL. I, also,
am in sales support. I am sure your management has heard of that
organization. They are very responsive. There is also the internal
technical support line I call whenever I have technical problems.
I don't know if they can help with product management issues, but
they are good about getting technical answers. 1-800-525-7104.

    re: .4

The response that you are seeing is the expected one. Some conferences
will be extremely timely and helpful and others will be completely
non-responsive. Additionally, conferences will migrate from one
category to the other with no warning, advance or otherwise. If this
isn't the aggravation that your management intends you to have to deal
with, they should develop a better understanding of the support
    channels available in the corporation.
