    Problem Install NT V4.0 on AlphaStation 255
    
    Does NT V4.0 run on an AlphaStation 255?  I have a client that has
    purchased the workstation; I have installed digital Unix V4.0B, which
    requires the V3.8 firmware update.
    
    I've used the same firmware to build an Alpha4100 and was able to
    install NT V4.0 on it.  I used the following procedure:
    
    From Console -
    
    >>> set os_type nt
    
    Place CD in CDreader
    Power off the station
    Wait ~ 30 secs
    Power on the station
    
    At this point, the computer goes through it's power up and then returns
    to the >>> prompt.  In the past, it typically loads the AlphaBios...
    
    BTW, I built digital Unix V4.0B on this system, on an RZ29.  I changed
    nothing in the system BIOS and have an additional disk, RZ28 that I 
    planned to build NT, creating a dual-boot for the station.

    You have to load AlphaBios from the firmware CD, yes
    nt runs on the 255

    Could you point me to documentation on how to load AlphaBios?  I've
    always built systems that already had it installed...

	I believe what the story is (if my memory serves me right) is that
	to keep the cost down on the 255, they only put enough NVRAM in to
	hold firmware for either OpenVMS/UNIX or NT, not both.  Therefore,
	you have to reload if you want to switch OS.  The firmware CD makes
	it easy.  Read the instructions that come with the CD.  I did it a
	month or so ago, so I don't remember the specifics, but it was 
	something like booting the CD and telling it which OS you wanted.
	When it was done, it rebooted to either SRM or ARC (not AlphaBIOS
	if I remember right).
