    The act of finding Alpha Firmware updates is horrendous on the network,
    ie; from outside Digital.
                                                             
    I have found a site that has Alpha firmware by doing a search on our
    systems, and I have also found a site that if you spend 15 minutes
    poking around the PCBU areas you might stumble upon.
    
    In any event, I include my Multia correction efforts here, but I defy
    anyone to be able to rapidly and quickly access www.digital.com and
    hit the appropriate sites to find any firmware updates for Alpha, let
    alone all the other stuff like Network hardware and options cards. The
    odessy of the search can go on for hours.

1997.

It took me the better part of 15 minutes to find this second page again.

The whole concept of firmware updates should be easily, readily accessible and
this was miserable. the top link was found with a search from the
www.digital.com home page, I've never found it by a referencing page ever.

    I love challenges.
    
    The following took about 10 seconds.  Sorry, Richard.  I _am_ reading
    your note in the spirit you intended and _do_ get the message.  For
    the Multia in particular, it seems "support" was dropped too abruptly
    and consequently no hand-off was made to allow someone else to host the
    files.  My group will be hosting the files as soon as I get a hold of
    the original files.  It has not been a high priority though with all of
    the other goings on.

    The above link that you found is much better than the ones I got off
    the www.windows.digital.com site.  Note that the approach that I took
    (using altavista) generated fast results by specifying host
    ftp.digital.com, which makes sense.  This "node" is Gatekeeper, isn't
    it?  Thinking just www makes the ftp address name less obvious.
