1013.0. "a1000a video install problem" by KAOFS::M_VALLEE (csc hull canada) Fri Feb 28 1997 08:08

    Hi

The customer has a alphaserver 1000a using the onboard cirrus video
he wants to change this to a ATI mach64 card because the onboard is
to slow.I known he has to set the jumper on the motherboard to disable
the onboard video, but then what while the system is up do you simply
install the ATI DRIVERS won't it try to detect the hardware before
install the driver this is what happens on INTEL platforms.

Depending on which version of NT you are running, do the following:

1. If you are running NT V3.51, install the ATI driver first before
disabling the on-board video and switching over to the ATI card.

2. If you are running NT V4.0, you can either do the above step or
installed the ATI card and load the driver under NT. When you install
a new video card, NT will default to the VGA driver if the driver for
the video card is not installed.
