1007.0. "Lotus Notes running on AXP /NT" by KERNEL::GARDNERN (Nadine Gardner S.I.) Fri Feb 21 1997 06:15

    Hi,

    I have a generic question around Lotus Notes running on AXP platforms.

    My customer seems to think that there are a number of problems with
    running Lotus Notes on Alpha platforms; what are the arguments for and
    against doing this.

    Any help or suggestions will be gratefully received.

    Regards

    Nadine.

See http://yesmom.zko.dec.com/html/lotusnotes.htm to see how much *better*
Lotus Notes runs on Alpha than on any other platform.

    Marc, et al,
    COMPAQ is spreading some noise about having the "best overall
    performance of any platform, on the Windows NT operating
    system" with a Notesbench score of 2112 on a dual PPro200
    ProLiant 5000.

    Of course, they compare with the 2 CPU AlphaServer 2100A numbers
    (1025, which, ok, wasn't good, but nothing compared to the current
    2CPU 4100 5/466's score of 3350).

    Play their game: do a re-release of the 4100's results and include
    their "best" numbers, no??

	Kratz... that's a *good* idea, so it probably won't get executed.
	But it did make me think that if it was done, the results against
	COMPAQ should include a link to the COMPAQ reference. That way
	people could click and see the fluff.

Message forwarded to Pete Eggimann, Steve Blanchette, Vaughn Mackie, and Andrei
Shishov who are responsible for Lotus Notes Engineering for Software Partners
Engineering, Low and Midrange Server Marketing, AlphaServer 4100 Product
Management, and Volume AlphaServers. If they can't make it happen, no one can.
Thanks for the pointer, I had missed it.

1007.6Step 1 - note to compaq counterpart ...HYDRA::EGGIMANNWed Apr 30 1997 11:1240
Attached is the note I sent to my counterpart at Compaq, with a copy
to the Notesbench product manager at Lotus, and the president of the
audit agency, KMDS. (KMDS also chairs the the Notesbench Vendor Consortium)

I'm meeting with Lotus tomorrow to drive the issue for action if Compaq
does not update the page. We will not be doing a press release to counter
the Compaq webpage. Brian is drafting a similar note to request the webmaster
update the Compaq page.

Pete

Subj:	webpage update request for latest Notesbench data

Hi Chung,

A couple large customers pointed out to me your Notesbench webpage (revised
4/19/97) where Compaq compares the Proliant 800 and Proliant 5000 servers with
old Digital AlphaServer data. We'd like to request your marketing folks update
the graph and table page with the latest audited AlphaServer data.

Our latest audited data is;

Server Platform # mail users $/TPM $/user Audit Date
---------------		  ------------		-----  -------	   ----------
AlphaServer 800 5/400      1 CPU 1800            16.78   23.11	     4/11/97
AlphaServer 4100 5/400     2 CPU 3100            22.49   29.38	     3/22/97
AlphaServer 4100 5/466     2 CPU 3350            24.61   31.07	     3/3/97

Let me know if there is a problem with this request, and please confirm when
you update this page. Also, let me or Dana know if you want a copy of our
Notesbench Audit reports.

Thanks and regards,

Pete
