Hi ,

providing HSM and NSR support for Switzerland and surrounding
countries, I downloaded the ft-kit-112196.tar and attempted
to install the kit onto two of our systems.

It appears that the advfs.mod file that you provide does not
really contain everything needed to actually build a kernel
with ADVfs - specifically 'ADVMs_malloc_mutex_lockinfo' and
'msfs_mntflushbuf' are missing as can be verified with nm.
I suspect that the modules were built without 'MSFS' defined.

The problem looks to be exactly the same for a newly installed
4.0a system as well as a 4.0b system .. (yes I know ..)

Do you have a complete advfs.mod file available ?

The Kernel build completes if I take out the 'option MSFS' but of
course I cannot boot such a kernel as I use ADVfs for all my file-
systems.

Pascal,

  I answered your query via email, but for the benefit of others, please do not
post Field Test questions in DECWET::NETWORKER. It's not yet a released product
and you will get faster response by sending email to [email protected] with HSM
in the header.

Short answer: the HSM Field Test kit only supports vanilla, unpatched DU 4.0 and
4.0a at this time.

You've already heard this, but for others' benefit:

This conference, HSM-4-UNIX, deals with Polycenter HSM.  The NetWorker HSM
folks don't read it, so they only hear about queries here when I tell them. 
This could delay the response (though it didn't in this case -- thanks, Steve!).
