7393.0. "PW's TCP/IP, RFC793 & "Out-of-band" packets?" by VMSNET::J_MAJEWSKI () Thu May 15 1997 11:35

I have a customer who has the following:

	Client: WFW v3.11 (no MS network), PW v6.0 eco2

        Has a client application that uses Sybase SQL server
        and is winsock-based. The interface for the database is CTLIB.

        The client generates an alert, creating an "out-of-band" packet,
        but PATHWORKS TCP/IP does not handle this. It fails with:

                "Net lib protocol driver call to write data failed.
                 Write to socket sent failed. Error=10045."

        Questions:

        1. Does our TCP/IP stack conform to RFC 793?

        2. Are there any values/parameters that can be added, to
                say the pwtcp.ini file, for "out-of-band" packets?

Thank you for you help.

7393.1No out of band for TCPIP PW Client stack.JAMIN::TELESETSKYWed May 21 1997 19:3412
    No, the PW client TCPIP stack doesn't support out of band. You can't
    send an ALERT via out of band. The user would experience an 10045
    error which means that the 'operation is not supported'.

    We do however, have a winsock.dll
    v6.0.61 which isn't a widely distributed patch which will allow out of
    band data to be sent as 'normal' to the stack. This patch resulted
    as a solution for CLD34918.

7393.2Where is winsock 6.0.61?ALFSS2::OLSEN_GReal Men Go Wireless!Fri May 23 1997 14:089
    Marsha,

    I've taken over the case noted in .0.

    Can I send that winsock to the customer - and if so, where is it?

    Thanks,
