Only if you want to use DECnet to make file + print connections...

For NT to communicate with the Pathworks you will need to use a common
transport protocol. Use NETBEUI as it comes built into NT and
Pathworks for OpenVMS. DECnet would require Pathworks for NT and
TCP/IP would require a TCP/IP stack for OpenVMS.

| PATHWORKS file server will use IPX, is the message get when I start

| The PATHWORKS for OpenVMS(LAN Manager) server will not use IPX but
the PATHWORKS for OpenVMS(NetWare) server will. You could access
that via the NT NetWare client if you wanted. If your OpenVMS server
is only using IPX, then I suspect that the LM server has not been
installed/configured. I recommend you stop by note 7 for the
location of the server conferences to find more information on the
various server products.

| (obviously) you need an appropriate license to access the server.
This can either be a client-based (WNT CCS license or FPA license)
using the client licensing software for NT -or- a server-based FPS
license.
I suggest you read through the many other notes here and in the other
notesfiles about PATHWORKS Licensing.

| I have the license loaded, I can see the four directories (such as
NETLOGON, RPLFILES wtc) from my PC and I am able to create a network
drive on my NT machine. However if I ty to explore the contents,
I get access is denied. I have used ADMIN/PATH and set permissions
to permit guest and admin.
When I logon from my Windows NT if I do a COnnect AS guest, it gives
me an error message saying "exisitng credentials conflict with supplied
credentials"
I guess I am doing something stupid.

| Suresh,
You may need to grant access to _your_ account (it sounds like you're
connecting using an existing account and not guest). With your client
connected to a share on the PATHWORKS server, do $ NET SESSIONS and see
what username it lists. Likely, whatever username you specify when
logging onto the nt workstation is a valid account on the PATHWORKS
server as well. Therefore, you need to grant THAT account access to
the share directories/files...

and who are you connecting as? I recommend you read
through ftp://ftp.digital.com/pub/DEC/PCI/faq.txt and
the many other Notes & STARS articles about permissions
and such.
