hallo, a customer of mine is trying to setup a second gateway for failover in his 'pwtcp.ini' on PW V5.1 Dos/Window client with the entry DefaultGW1=....... Now when he turns off the first gateway the second one takes over as long as TCP/IP numbers are used. As soon as TCPIP names are used from the Nameserver, the names caanot be resolved. Only when PC's are in the same subnet as the Nameserver the names get resolved. Can anybody help to troubleshoot this Thanks Walter Karnbaum (CSC Munich)

Hi, Try increasing the Timeout value in [DNR] section of PWTCP.INI. (I hope you could ping the DNS from the other subnet, by giving the IP address!) Re Bala [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]
7373.2 | DNS server and static routes | RTOMS::KARNBAUMW | Mon Apr 07 1997 05:31 | 17
hi, sorry i was not correct in my first note: The customer can reach nodes over the second gateway if he uses node numbers, but not if he uses node names, which are resolved by a DNS server. So the problem seems to be, that the DNS server is not recognized or reached via the second gateway. Also the customer uses static routes on his gateways to reach the subnet, where the DNS server is located. any thoughts ? Walter |
