7348.0. "Local Printer, VMS Queue and LAT" by STU01::53514::stu01::kroiss () Tue Mar 04 1997 12:14

Hi,

I have a Problem with an Printer, locally attached to an OS/2 PC with a Queue
on an VMS Node.

Problem Description:
Customer has several PATHWORKS 4.1 DOS Clients.
On the Client side are localy attached printers via parallel port.
Customer configures a LAT Service for this local printer and prints out
from the VMS Server side. (VMS 5.5-2)

Problem:
Customer has to migrate to IBM OS/2 LAN Server environment
with PATHWORKS Version 5.1 on top.
When trying to copy a VMS-File to the LAT port
pointing to the localy attached client printer via LAT,
the VMS side gets an error:

file write error
data set hang-up
file not completely copied

Tested with the configuration on the client side i got following
results:
connection via LAT-terminal to the client LAT Service i can print out to
the printer !!
iris trace show traffic between VMS and OS/2 Client
connecting the NODE and SERVICE correctly.

Environment:
Client
localy queue NEC attached to lpt1:
c:\spool\nec exists
latcp add NECPR NEC

$ mc latcp create port lta510: /app
$ mc latcp set port lta510: /NODE=OS2PC /SERVICE=NECPR
$ copy test.txt lta510:
results in
file write error
data set hang-up
file not completely copied

Kurt

Hi,

Could you have the customer do a C> LATCP SHOW and post the
results here? That might help me figure out the problem.

Thank you,
Tom

Hi,

I asked the customer to do a c:\> latcp show char
here is the result:

c:\> latcp show char

        LAT Protocol Version 6.0
        Maximum number of sessions 30
        Maximum number of services 50
        Number of Buffers per session 4

Errr.. could you ask them to try a

	c> LATCP SHOW

without the "char"? This will provide a lot more information.

Thanks,
Tom
7348.4No latcp showSTU01::53514::stu01::kroissThu Mar 13 1997 10:5614
Sorry,

it's a OS/2 Client and there's no latcp show ( Command not known ),
the only possible options are characters, local, services.
Option Characters shows the four lines from .3,
local shows the local setting from the local port, name and a few counters,
all zero
services shows all services in the network.

There is no more information on client side.

    Hmm.. Well..

    Unfortunately, OS/2 is a different code base and I'm not at
    all familiar with it. I don't have the cycles to work on it.

    If it's a problem, please CLD it. I didn't know we still
    supported OS/2.
