    Now, for a related question (which is how I ended up finding this in
    the first place)...
    
    If the PC's hard disk is moved to another PC, or the network card
    changed -- is there anywhere in the WMD record that the station address
    is stored and could be getting confused?

Not that I remember... the data involved is just that data in update.dat,
but...

There are some odd rules about what update.exe will do if the update.dat
file is missing, currently exists... etc.
