Hi, I have configured the AdvFS on top of LSM volume. Can I uses the LSM's snapshot to backup my temp volume created by "volassist snapstart" & "volassist snapshot" ? Or I can only uses the cloneset to backup the file system online. Wellcome any suggestion. David Lee.

Hi David, While you can use "volassist snapshot" to create a "copy volume", you will not be able to mount it on any mount point, because ADVFS does not accept to mount "twice" the "same" filesystem. So you should better use the ADVFS clonefset for the backup. Moreover, creating a clonefset is VERY VERY FASTER than LSM snapshot as only the hierarchy structure is copied. But, be carrefull if you intend to backup the clonefset by NetWorker as it regards any file in the ADVFS clone as a "sparse" file and can transform an oracle flat file in a sparse one !!! Manu. |
