1036.0. "Advfs for news service question" by HGOVC::EDMONDLEUNG () Mon Apr 07 1997 08:57
Hi,
One of our customers is using Advfs for the news service. When the news
user is getting more and more (around 400), they have encountered the
performance problem. The response time for posting the news is getting
slower and slower. This customer usually runs the defragmentation
during non-peak hour and the degragmentation process can be completed
around 3 to 4 hours. However, up to the current moment, the
defragmentation process cannot be completed within 4 hours and most
likely the customer needs to kill it manually since this process causes
the performance further degraded.
Attached pls find the defragmenetation log file for the news domain.
Can someone provide any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this problem
and what is the information we need to collect in order to sole this
problem? What'll be the appropriate commands we can use to collect the
useful data?
Thanks and rgds,
Edmond

| Hi
You might want to look at the disk performance data...
You may want a multi-volume domain (if it is not already) and you
may want to lsm stripe it across more drives to speed the performance.
You might run sys_check to see if there are other things on the
system to be watched?
You did not mention what version, how much memory...etc...sys_check
will gather that
