1033.2 | GUI requires CDE, but... | DECWET::DIPIETRO | | Mon Apr 07 1997 09:28 | 22 |
| The GUI runs only on a Digital UNIX box under CDE.
The GUI has a remote management capability, so can
run on any Digital UNIX box running CDE at the customer's
site. See the documentation to configure this.
If no suitable graphics head is available, then the
command line utilities will need to be used - they
work just fine.

| Hi
I'm not aware that IBM has a defragmenter, nor expansion and
contraction by adding/removing volumes. IBM does not support
file system striping...
IBM does have a log based file system and it supports both
/ and non-root disks like we do.

| I think IBM figured out how to add space to a file system back
when we were selling ULTRIX. Adding space to UFS isn't that
hard. We could it if we had elected to ship extendfs that
came from OSF.

1033.6 | Just UNIX if GUI not required | JULIET::HATTRUP_JA | Jim Hattrup, Santa Clara, CA | Mon Apr 07 1997 18:32 | 8 |
| You should look at the UNIX and Adv File System SPD's, but I
thought that the Multi-volume capability is licensed with Unix.
For defrag, undelete, GUI interface, and dynamic (?) change of
partitions you will need the AdvFS Utilities (which was part of NAS
200, and will be part of a 'StorageWorks' storage management software
offering.

addvol/rmvol comes with the AdvFS Utilites and are licensed seperately.

How does this offering look like? To what systems will it be shipped/bundled
with? .. or does it need to be bought seperately?

Arnold
