At a customer site where DECwindows Motif 1.2-4 was just upgraded on a VAXcluster with 3 7740s and 2 8820s running OpenVMS 6.1 VAX one of the 8820s consoles kept prompting "Do you want the system to run AUTOGEN for you [YES]?" after the installation. Since users don't log onto this machine (it's a mail and queue node) the person who installed the software didn't seem to care about getting this straightened out. This morning (at least a week or so after the upgrade) the system was autogened and re-booted only we can't seem to find out who did the autogen. The console reflects the question being asked with no response repeatedly and then at 9:25 we see the message that AUTOGEN is beginning: %AUTOGEN-I-BEGIN, GETDATA phase is beginning. It runs through the AUTOGEN and then the system is shutdown and re-booted. Anyone have any ideas as to why all of a sudden the AUTOGEN was run and the system shutdown? Is there a timer in this routine? The customer is concerned about the fact that this occurred. Yes we realize the person who did the install should addressed DECwindows Motif only running on the three 7740s or just done the AUTOGEN. If I need to be in another notes conference please let me know! Appreciating inputs on this issue.

There is no timeout on the question. It sounds like someone might have pressed the return key -- the default answer to the question about running AUTOGEN is "yes". -- Bob |
