I have a customer that have installed a second ZLXP-E1 card in his
Alpha Station 200 running VMS V6.2-1H3 and Motif V1.2-4 to be able
to use Multiple Screens (DUAL HEAD).
Unfortunately the system hangs in DECW$PRIVATE_SERVER_SETUP.COM
after the following output.
Number of screens: 2
Screen devices and order: None
No configuration setup has been done in DECW$PRIVATE_SERVER_SETUP.COM
to get DUAL HEAD function to work. Is this really neaded by the way ?
According to the Motif V1.2-4 SPD "Support for Multiple Screens
Configurations" are included but it doesn't say if it is supported
under CDE.
I know have some questions.
- Is DUAL HEAD supported under CDE and if not is there any plans
to support it in the future ?
- I guess it is possible to run Motif V1.2-4 without CDE ,that is
running the Motif V1.2-3 look. Is then DUAL HEAD supported ?
- Could the system hang problem above ,have anyting to to with system
resources like SYSTEM PARAMETERS that have to be adjusted when a
second graphical card is connected ?

There are some restrictions on CDE's support for multi-head but this shouldn't prevent DECwindows from starting. You might need to double your VIRTUALPAGECNT parameter and there might be other parameters that you need to increase. After you edit the DECW$PRIVATE_SERVER_SETUP.COM file, if DECwindows still won't start try running AUTOGEN. -- Bob | |||||
