Here is the request from the customer: I have a french customer who is using DECwindows Motif OpenVMS User Interface Francais V1.2-3 successfully. He would like to upgrade his DECwindows Motif to V1.2-4 but noted that there is no equivalent French version to this product on the January 97 Consolidated Software CD. We would simply like to know if and when V1.2-4 of the french interface will be released. If the answer is negative, could he run his V1.2-3 french interface with the newer V1.2-4 DECwindows Motif? Mike

There are no plans to release a French language variant for DECwindows Motif V1.2-4. The only language variants that have been produced for V1.2-4 are Japanese and Hebrew. Installing the V1.2-3 French language variant on top of V1.2-4 is unsupported, and I don't think it will work. -- Bob

Bob, I need to understand your answer clearly... are you saying there is currently no plans to release a French language variant or that this particular variant has reached the end of it's life? The customer, based on the Software Rollouts of Mar-97, can run V1.2-3C on OpenVMS VAX V5.5-2 to V7.1 and V1.2-3B of DECwindows... francais on OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 to V7.1. However, he should not install DECwindows Motif V1.2-4 based on you answer. Thanks for your help, Patricia Chaplinsky OpenVMS Support Team

My understanding is that there won't be any new versions of the French language variant after V1.2-3, although Digital might release new patch kits for it to allow it to be run on future versions of OpenVMS. This is what happened with V1.2-3B and V1.2-3C. If your customer has concerns about this, you should contact the DECwindows product manager, Vittorio STAR::Mezzano. -- Bob |
