5939.0. "CDE/no login box/open3D" by VAXRIO::MAURO () Fri Mar 14 1997 14:07

    Hi,

    AlphaStation 255/300
    PalCode 5.56
    Console Vers 6.3-5
    OpenVMS 6.2-1h3
    Motif 1.2-4
    DECW$OUTPUT = GYA0 (I suspect it is a ZLX-E)

    During the the Motif startup the login box doesn't appear. We already
    checked all sysgen parameters. The startup stop with a black screen.
    The DECW$SERVER_0_ERROR.LOG stop with the messages below:

    GL Extension initialized
    Build Date and source Tree:
    DEC:PKO:O3D:3.4.0"V32_SSB:3.4.0:09:18;96:OSF1:V3.2.148:CC::OPT::

    14-MAR-1997 14:43:35.4 Calling dispatcher...

    I found the open3d035.release_notes in SYS$HELP I would like to known
    how to be sure that it is being installed during the boot. Do I need to
    include a open3d startup file within the systartup_vms.com?
    How I can check out if it seems to be installed all right?
    Any other reason for login box doesn't appear?
    Is the procedure to troubleshoot no login box from motif 1.2-3 useful
    to motif 1.2-4 (CDE)?
    Any tip will very welcome...

    Thanks, Mauro.

You can get a log file for the CDE login process the same way as for the
DECwindows login process: by defining the logical name DECW$LOGINLOG in
SYS$MANAGER:DECW$PRIVATE_APPS_SETUP.COM to be the name of the log file and
restarting DECwindows.

5939.2No news with .1VAXRIO::MAUROMon Mar 17 1997 10:069
    I used .1 suggestion. During the DECW$STARTUP restart the file
    DECW$LOGIN.LOG is created empty. It seems that everything works fine
    but the console screen maintains itself blue/white letter, but not
    locked, the customer is able to access it as a serial terminal.

    Does it can be a hardware problem? Or even an error in the Graphic Card
    configuration?

    Regards, Mauro.

Is the DECW$SERVER_0 process running after the login attempt? If so, try
this: log into the SYSTEM account and enter these commands:

	$ set display/create/transport=local
	$ run decw$examples:ico

Does the ICO program start? If not, what error messages does it display?

5939.4I think already did this test...VAXRIO::MAUROMon Mar 17 1997 12:0215
    Bob,

    the system is out right now. But I figure that already did this test
    and the run ico didn't return error and after few minutes I aborted it.
    After that, when I try to type the decw$server_0_error.log I got the
    message "file currently locked for another user". If I restart the
    decwindows the previous version of this file is empty.

    Do you have any tips about Alphastation 255/300 with motif 1.2-3,
    openvms 6.2 and open3d v3.5? May I get this situation if I have a wrong
    graphic card? The is a FIS station and since the customer started to
    use it that Motif didn't work.

    Thanks, Mauro.
